UCCSFBA Brings Uzbek Culture to Kids’N Fun Festival 2025
The Uzbek Community Center of San Francisco Bay Area (UCCSFBA) proudly participated in the annual Kids’N Fun Festival at Cupertino Memorial Park on August 23rd, 2025, joining one of the largest family-oriented cultural events in the Bay Area. Organized by the Taiwanese Cultural and Sport Association, this vibrant celebration provided the perfect platform for our community to share Uzbekistan’s rich heritage with hundreds of local families, furthering the festival’s mission of fostering “a more peaceful community through cultural awareness and appreciation.”
Sharing Uzbekistan with the Bay Area
Our colorful pavilion quickly became a center of attention as curious visitors of all ages gathered to learn about Uzbekistan. Interactive displays featured maps highlighting our country’s strategic location at the heart of Central Asia, once a crucial junction on the ancient Silk Road connecting East and West. Children were particularly fascinated by the geographical presentation showing Uzbekistan’s diverse landscapes, from the Fergana Valley’s fertile fields to the vast Kyzylkum Desert.
Cultural Icons and Heritage
Visitors discovered Uzbekistan’s remarkable contributions to world civilization through our “Notable Uzbeks” exhibit. Festival attendees learned about legendary historical figures like Amir Timur (Tamerlane), mathematician Al-Khorazmi (The Father of Algebra), the origin of the word Algorithm comes from his name, the astronomer Ulugh Beg, and the poet Alisher Navoi. The display also featured contemporary Uzbek achievements, showcasing modern artists, scientists, and athletes who continue to bring pride to our nation globally.
Dedicated Volunteers
The success of our participation wouldn’t have been possible without the dedication of UCCSFBA volunteers spanning generations. Our youngest community members, many born in America, worked alongside older immigrants who brought authentic knowledge directly from Uzbekistan. Teenagers taught traditional dance moves to American children, while elder community members demonstrated crafts like silk weaving and embroidery techniques passed down through generations.
Building Bridges
This participation aligns perfectly with both UCCSFBA’s mission and the festival’s goal of promoting “inter-cultural friendship and diversity through community events.” By sharing our heritage at this beloved Bay Area tradition, we’ve strengthened connections with our neighbors and raised awareness about Uzbekistan’s unique place in the global cultural mosaic.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Taiwanese Cultural and Sport Association (TCSA) for this wonderful opportunity and look forward to participating in future cultural exchanges.
